1st Annual Black History Science Fair
Due to Covid-19 changes, there have been a few updates for the Science Fair. Our origin Date of February 19th will have to be pushed to the 26th. The original parks and recreation center is currently closed indefinitely so we are going to be hosting the fair at Largo Community Church.(1701 Enterprise Rd, Mitchellville, MD 20721) We will also push our registration date back to February 7th. I hope this isn’t too much of an inconvenience for your Families. I do want to make sure we have a safe and successful event. If you have any questions please let me know. The payment will still be due on the 1st of February. It can be made through cashapp, Venmo or Zelle.
K-3 Grade Requirements
All entries must be signed up and paid by February 1st. The setup for the fair will begin at 1 pm and judges will start at 1:30 pm. The awards will be given at 2:45pm. Every project will need to include a Black history component ie: black scientists, black historical facts, or answer a modern-day science question affecting black families today.
Each student will need a project model Display or An Experiment board with the following questions answered

Introduction: Background information on your topic, why you chose this topic. How Black history is included?

The question: What is the question you set out to answer? Include your hypothesis (for experimental projects) or statement of purpose (for invention/engineering/computer projects).

Results: Show and explain your observations and results (include graphs, charts, tables, drawings, or photos). Include your original logbook or journal with your project at the fair!

Conclusions: What did you conclude about the question you investigated?

4th & 5th grade Requirements

For this age group, we want to focus on the Scientific Method and how it is used for each project. In addition to the Black History component, we are looking for a transition from parents helping to independent presentations.
